Commencement is almost here! All ceremonies will be held at the Watsco Center, with livestreams available for guests who cannot attend in person.
Candidates must apply for graduation in CaneLink and order their cap and gown by the term deadline. Additional ceremony details are available throughout this website.
The Fall Commencement Ceremony held in December is intended for students completing their degree requirements in the fall semester. The Spring Commencement Ceremonies held in May are intended for students completing their degree requirements during the current spring or upcoming summer semester. If you are unable to participate in commencement during the appropriate semester due to other obligations and would like to walk at an earlier or later date, please contact the Office of Commencement directly at commencementhelp@miami.edu or (305) 284-4247 for further instruction.
Note: There is NO summer commencement ceremony. Summer graduates should walk in the spring ceremony in May prior to degree completion, and apply to graduate via CaneLink during the spring semester.
Graduation marks the official completion of your academic requirements and the conferral of your degree. Commencement, by contrast, is the ceremonial celebration of this milestone, where graduates wear regalia, cross the stage, and are recognized for their achievements as members of the University of Miami community.
Participation in commencement does not constitute graduation or guarantee the awarding of a degree or academic honors. Diplomas are issued by the Office of the Registrar upon successful completion of your degree requirements.
For more information about graduation eligibility and degree requirements, please contact your academic advisor or the Office of the Registrar at (305) 284-2294 or visit their website.
University of Miami Commencement ceremonies feature a speaker to share advice and guidance with our graduates as they prepare to take the next step as alumni. This celebration unites the entire University community. Our speakers will join a list of distinguished world leaders, business people, academics, politicians, lawyers, doctors, poets, and journalists.
Commencement speakers are invited by University of Miami leaders for this prestigious honor.
To help identify speakers who would provide an inspiring, relevant, and meaningful message, we encourage our students, faculty, and staff to submit a nomination. Nominations are accepted all year round. Close ties to the University, such as being an alumnus, are encouraged for nominations.
