Doctoral Hooding Process

The doctoral candidates will be hooded on stage during the commencement ceremony. The Graduate School will designate the faculty hooders for all candidates. Candidates earning the Ph.D., D.M.A. and Ed.D. degrees may be escorted on stage by their faculty dissertation advisor. The advisor will be seated with his or her candidate(s) for the duration of the ceremony. An advisor is not required to be present.

Graduates will proceed to the stage where they will be hooded by the preselected faculty hooders. The advisor, if present, will stand beside the candidate. Once the candidate is hooded, the advisor will exit the stage immediately and proceed to the photography station at the back of the room.

The graduate will then proceed across the stage to be congratulated by the president and dean. Graduates will exit the stage and move to the back of the room for an additional photograph with their advisor before returning to their seats.
