The ceremony is open to all graduates, family, and friends and occurs in the fall during the Alumni and Friends Recognition Reception during Homecoming and in the spring during the week of commencement. For more information, please visit the Lavender Celebration and Recognition Ceremony webpage on the LGBTQ Student Center website or contact them at lgbtq@miami.edu. Graduating Legacy Reception: The Division of Alumni Relations celebrates graduating students and their families with an official UM legacy stole to wear during commencement. At this special ceremony, legacy parent(s)/grandparent(s) will have the opportunity to present their graduating legacy with an official UM legacy stole to wear during commencement. More details to come. Senior Mwambo Ceremony: The Senior Mwambo Ceremony is an African rite of passage ceremony that marks the transition of black graduates from their lives at the University of Miami to advanced education and professional careers. This ceremony was established in 1992 through the vision and love of a very dynamic and caring international student from Malawi, East Africa; Mr. Patrick A. Masala. For questions regarding the Senior Mwambo Ceremony, please contact the Office of Multicultural Student Affairs at msa@miami.edu or click here.Other Celebrations
