Lavender Celebration and Recognition Ceremony: The Lavender Celebration is an annual event that recognizes our graduating LGBTQIA+ students and outstanding leaders. The ceremony is open to all graduates, family, and friends and occurs in the fall during the Alumni and Friends Recognition Reception during Homecoming and in the spring during the week of commencement. For more information, please visit the Lavender Celebration and Recognition Ceremony webpage on the LGBTQ Student Center website or contact them at lgbtq@miami.edu. The Spring 2025 Lavender Celebration and Recognition Ceremony will be the 10th Anniversary and will be celebrated on April 30, 2025. Mark your calendars. 

Graduating Legacy Reception: The Division of Alumni Relations celebrates graduating students and their families with an official UM legacy stole to wear during commencement.

Fall commencement legacy graduates, please register here to obtain your legacy stole.

Spring commencement legacy graduates, join us at our annual Graduating Legacy Reception on May 8, 2025. Senior Mwambo Ceremony:  The Senior Mwambo Ceremony is an African rite of passage ceremony that marks the transition of black graduates from their lives at the University of Miami to advanced education and professional careers. This ceremony was established in 1992 through the vision and love of a very dynamic and caring international student from Malawi, East Africa; Mr. Patrick A. Masala.
