Watsco Center at University of Miami 1245 Dauer Drive, Coral Gables FL

All commencement ceremonies are held at the Watsco Center on the Coral Gables Campus located at 1245 Dauer Drive, Coral Gables, Florida 33146. For more information regarding the venue visit the Watsco Center Website.


Tickets are NOT required for any commencement ceremonies at the University of Miami. Graduates may invite as many family and friends as they like to attend. Students will be asked to estimate the number of guests during the application for graduation for planning purposes only. NO tickets or parking passes are needed for any University of Miami Commencement ceremonies.

Doors open one hour prior to the published start time of the ceremony. Seating is first-come, first-served, general admission seating. Tickets are NOT needed for any commencement ceremonies. We recommend that large groups of guests wishing to sit together arrive early. To accommodate all guests, saving seats will not be allowed.

Note: The academic procession will enter the commencement site fifteen minutes prior to the start of the ceremony. All guests should be seated by this time.


To ensure the safety and security of our guests, the Watsco Center reserves the right to inspect any bags, clothing or other articles prior to entry and prohibit entry or require removal of any items at their sole discretion. All bags will be inspected before they are permitted into the Watsco Center. As a condition of entry into the Watsco Center all guests will consent to being screened utilizing handheld metal detectors. You will need to remove mobile phones, cameras, and other large metal items from pockets before proceeding to the metal detector screening. Doors open one hour prior to the event start time. Guests are encouraged to arrive early to expedite the screening process. Large items such as strollers will not be permitted in the arena but may be checked at the VIP Lobby Entrance on the ground floor. Please ask a UM staff volunteer for assistance in checking items. Balloons, confetti, and noise makers are not permitted.

Special Needs

ADA accessible areas are reserved for guests with special needs only. There is access to the Special Needs seating areas on the ground floor and concourse level via an elevator. Guests with special needs should enter the arena at the VIP Lobby Entrance (located to the right of the main stairway and across from the Special Needs parking lot). Please ask a UM staff volunteer for assistance upon arrival. Guests with special needs may have one additional guest seated with them in the ADA area.

No outside food or beverages are permitted in the Watsco Center. Concession stands will be open during commencement ceremonies on the main concourse. The food service provider offers a wide selection of food items.

The UM Campus Store will be on-site at the arena with a variety of 'Canes gear, memorabilia, and flowers.

Printed Program Books

Commencement program books will be available at the entrance to the ceremony for guests and in the seating areas reserved for graduating students and participating faculty. The program, which will be individualized for each ceremony, lists the name, degree, and proper accolades for each graduate. It also contains biographical information on honorary degree recipients and speakers as well as a detailed sequence of events for each ceremony.

Graduate Seating

All graduates will be seated on the floor. Graduates are seated with their classmates according to school or college and degree level. Graduates are not seated alphabetically or by specific degrees.
