Don't miss out on this Canes tradition! Wear the official UM Stole of Gratitude with your regalia to the commencement ceremony.
The official University of Miami Stole of Gratitude is a white sash with the U logo worn during the commencement ceremony over your regalia. The stole has special meaning and after the ceremony, the new graduate may choose to present the stole to someone who provided extraordinary help or support, such as parents, relatives, or mentors, as a sign of gratitude. More than one stole may be worn during commencement, symbolizing that there are multiple persons destined to receive UM Stole of Gratitude and your token of appreciation.
The stole may be placed around the neck of the recipient with words of thanks. Recipients will never forget the kindness inherent in the recognition and sentimental feelings connected with being presented with the stole. The fact that the presenter wears it during the commencement ceremony adds a very special element to an already touching gesture.
In addition to making a presentation to someone special, the stole can be kept by the graduate as a treasured reminder of time spent at UM.
The stole may be decorated. Presenters often write a few words of love and appreciation on the back of the stole using a permanent, fine tipped marker. Friends and family of the graduate may also autograph the front or back or inscribe words of pride and love. The Official University of Miami Stole of Gratitude is a lasting symbol of love, appreciation, and academic accomplishment.
